Overall, I enjoyed the book. The story about the horse Lexington, his owners and riders was interesting. I was less interested in the story about the preservation of his skeletal remains. In addition, there were some parts of the book which just seemed totally unnecessary. I wasn't sure for example why the five page letter from the painter Scott, not really even about the Civil War, but just his relationship with another man not involved in the main story at all, was included. Overall a good book but not outstanding.
