(I was trying to rate this 2.5 stars but I’m stupid and can’t figure out how) Spoilers I am no life long Superman fan, but I will say I have read a good amount of comics about/for him. This movie is… something I guess. I feel it is a very entertaining movie, it does its job in that, and I feel that Superman is a good character. They definitely chose the right actor for doing him, and I feel the relationship between him and Louis (I might not be spelling that right), is pretty good, nothing groundbreaking, but done decently. They definitely got Lex Luther as a character done very well, he’s petty and obviously evil, which is how I feel the character should be. But, there are just so many issues with this movie. First off, the dog. Dear god, Crypto is so annoying. He doesn’t do anything as a legitimate character, which he obviously shouldn’t, he’s a dog, but they throw him in nearly every scene that super man is in so that he seems like he’s doing something, even though he isn’t. The humor in this movie is (mostly) actually pretty funny, but it’s so out of place. This movie is absolutely terrible at trying to mesh serious and funny, and the pacing does nothing to help it. The pacing is just plane bad, it doesn’t work very well, and everything overlaps. Also, the characters of The Hammer of Bolivia, and Angelia Spica/The Engineer (which I swear to god is the name of some character in some video game movie like “Ready Player One” or something) are not good characters. Angelia does a ton in the movie, and is an actual character (unlike Crypto) but we never get backstory for her, and at the end of the movie after ALMOST KILLING SUPERMAN, she “dies” and even though the quite literally say “Her hearts still beating! But she’s unconscious” she never shows up in even a single frame, not even the post credits scene. And don’t even get me started on the Hammer of Bolivia. Yes I know he’s a clone, but the way they literally just pilot him, they may have just made him a robot for crying out loud. And his face reveal is so anti-climactic. Now, with the “dimensional rift”, it’s just completely unnecessary. All it does is provide as a setting for the fight between Superman and THoB, which easily could have just been Metropolis. And, including the fact THAT ITS A LITERAL BLACK HOLE, and the only one that cares about it is Mr. Terrific, is just ridiculous. And, finally, the CGI is not great. Overall, this movie is entertaining, has a good main character/main character relationship, but poor CGI, terrible pacing, lost character potential, and good but completely out of place humor. Would only recommend if it’s free to watch, and you have nothing else to do.
