Yumeko was a very good fit in terms of acting and looks. Brilliant job and carried mannerism true to the spirit of the anime. The alot of the cast seemed re-written to suit the actors/actresses which is a little disappointing, however, Suki did win me over a little and played the part well despite not being anything like the original.
They tried to humanise Yumeko with a backstory and alterior motive which is creatively admirable, but I found that this was an instance where less is more: the original Yumeko was a mystery and a demon disguised as a charming girl who always beat the odds when playing fair, with a trick up her sleeve for those who don't; this was enough for the character to be interesting. the new Yumeko was strong but had moments of vulnerability and her motives frequently switched between her pure love of risk vs going crazy over her deceased parents vs not trusting her friends. I find the complexity created a dissonance that was a bit jarring, and feel that heroes don't always have to be humanised by giving them problems.
Finally, a lot of the games in the series are "risky" in that there is danger but not really gambling as there's skill involved (capture the flag, icebreaker, etc). I would of liked to see more chance style games where the opponent is forced to play fair or get outplayed by Yumeko. Games and tactics have all been skimmed over this series which made the original great.
