The combination of real family emotions and Sci Fi really works in this series, but it is the amazing acting of the cast that carries it. I have not seen such great acting in a long time in an Amazon series. Some may find the closeness and love aspect out of place in Sci-Fi, but it works. The direction and camera work is so precise as well as the editing and music that there is nothing I would call "filler". SIssy S. is such a great actress.
