This movie definitely deserves 5 stars. Is it perfect? Well, is any adaptation of a book or musical perfect? For me, it earns this rating for the entirely superb and stirring performances of the leads, success in emotionally connecting, and capturing the essence of the story, which is the unlikely friendship and one's true calling. Choreography and direction is outstanding, costume design incredible. Musically, it is rich, and is true to the roots while delivering something fresh as well. Kudos, while being a Hollywood epic, this movie stays in the guardrails and never feels overdone. Riveting from start to finish.

A true cinematic masterpiece. This complex story gets an excellent screenplay treatment that paints a clear picture of what's going on, while taking viewers on an epic thrill ride.

Really, a pretty cool story and clever tie ins. Likeable, complex characters. Good action, drama, tragic moments. The elements are here for a GREAT movie - but just feels a little thin, and a confusing ending. Probably needed to be two parts to develop proper, and not have to crash into the conclusion. Overall a quite enjoyable movie.

Actually a surprisingly heady and tender story to go with what was advertised as merely a zany, crude, and raunchy film. A lot of laughs and great emotional moments. Both J-Law and Andy Feldman turn in great performances. Enjoyed this from start to finish. Reminds me of a good Judd Apatow flick.
