Starts of well with some good characters, quickly drifts into a cliche. Aliens attack, we quickly learn they can only hear us, while knowing nothing else about them. The plot then quickly descends into silently creeping around New York City while inevitably knocking something over and making a noise. Despite New York having millions of people and being chosen because of its noise it quickly becomes an inevitable wasteland of broken buildings and landmarks and totally void of any other survivors or dead bodies other than the two main characters and a cat (which uses up a lot of its nine lives) By the end of the prequel we know just as little about the creatures than we did after the original movie.
