I played the Witcher three “wild hunt” all the way through, twice, and I absolutely love that game. It deserved game of the year. With that being said, Cyberpunk 2077 is a good game for what it is, but Game of the Year, it is not.
My biggest problem with Cyberpunk 2077 is it is not necessarily the most open world game, and seems much linear upon closer examination. Night City is awesome at first glance, but then it quickly becomes the “Truman show” to some extent. The same two cops are outside V’s apartment, every day, trying to make an arrest or question a suspect... and for all the hoopla made about the adult themes in the game, they are pretty lame 90% (The scene with Alt is great) of the time. The main “adult strip” street in the game, only features one hooker (for each gender) that you can purchase. Dozens of ladies working the area, but you can only purchase “the” one. Oh by the way, it’s the same one every time, she doesn’t even change daily, or get prettier. Worth noting that you can’t even go in most of the establishments unless you have a mission that takes you in there so, it’s nothing like anything rockstar has ever made. Everything in this game starts to feel like papier-mâché by the second or third day. These aren’t real establishments, they’re just poster board, and tape. Most of the allure of this game, is just smoke and mirrors.
I find this game to be closer to an elaborate “visual novel” than an actual action game, RPG or not.
Yeah, there’s gunplay and such, but it feels more progression focused, then it does a fun gun fight.
If you ride a motorcycle from the third person perspective, the front wheel on the motorcycle doesn’t even turn/roll when you’re moving. That’s pretty awful in an eight year development, AAA title. And by the way, I played my whole game on the PS5, playing the PS4 version. Probably, the best experience possible, without a super computer. I’m not even going to mention how many times it still crashed.
The Witcher three “wild hunt” was CD project red’s Grandtheft auto 3, it got everyone’s attention, and was far better than anyone thought they could’ve produced. However, the follow up game cyberpunk 2077 is exactly like rockstars follow up game called “state of emergency”. Full of promise, but in the end, nowhere near as deep, or good as the previous one.
