This is one of those movies where you need to be really attentive. It's well paced, great cast, and excellent story writing. I'd say this is a first for such kind of movie, so I don't know what genre to place it in. It has a bit of humor, subtle jokes here and there that you'll get if you're attentive enough. Towards the end, I can't tell you the number of times I had to pause and rewind just so I could understand what was happening (I was on my phone for like 5 mins, so I missed some important details). It's great recommendation if you're looking for those movies that leave you with the "Wtf did I just watch?" looks on your face.

The show starts off so well you want to like it. But immediately it enters the religious domain, I wasn't sure if I need to proceed further. However, it slowly makes a comeback, and even though it centers so much on Christianity, you'll love some of the sermons. There's a lot of good and bad in this show but the bad overweights the good. For starters, there were scenes where the characters dragged so much to take action I wanted to die. It's lazy writing, where you have characters who know what needs to be done, but the writers just have this need to rile your emotions so much, and you can see that worked cos here I am writing a review. Some characters also leave you wondering whether they really think. I get there's a lot of radicalization going on in the show, but the directors really really stretched it, it became annoying. The cinematography is well done. A few jump scares here and there, but the show isn't rich enough to earn the title of a horror movie. Maybe a vampire at best.

Of all Flanagan's works, I'll give this a mid at best. I have loved all of Flanagan's past shows but this one dragged on too long I started checking out. You want to like it, especially as it starts, with all that 90's vibe, but it starts getting stale as the stories keep increasing. The show would have done great with 7 episodes at best. 10 is a stretch, and it's not like 'Hill House' where Flanagan weaves the story so well such that it deserved that number of episodes. The characters, well, they're likeable. But not so much as the lead character. She's self-centered, obnoxious, and she got more irritating as the episodes carry on. I'll gladly rewatch 'Hill House' or 'Bly Manor' but I don't think I can sit down and rewatch this show.
