Want to learn and experience the real New York that I grew up in? I also worked for the Subways and spent a great deal of time on the #7. It is one of the many hearts of NYC, but in so far as how immigrants experience NY this book lays out what various different groups have experienced coming to Queens. The 7 train is the link to Manhattan and centers a newcomer. Once they learn, by viewing what others do, they join the club. Anyone can join the #7 club and learn to be an American. At least the America that I grew up in - admiring lady liberty in the harbor and welcoming all to our bountiful shores.
