Ugh 🥴
I’m ashamed to say that it was at the tail end of episode 4 when it occurred to me that the ‘curse’ doesn’t really have much to do with that TikTok viral video craze that Asher (Nathan Fielder) believed it was, but much more to do with being married to the very ‘woke’ Whitney (Emma Stone).
He should run, not walk, to the nearest witch doctor or divorce attorney he can find to rid himself of it.
Poor guy … or should I even pity him for marrying a woman who is actually more married and concerned about being environmentally and culturally accepted by her disingenuous peers, bemoaning social inequalities and racial injustice, as well as being equally concerned with breaking away and being independent of her wealthy parents? Difficult to decide as I dislike both of these characters.
Her for her self flagellation for being anything other than what identity politics would allow (not to mention her complete lack of self awareness) and him for allowing her to lead him around by the nose ring for being anything short of her perceived and persistent idealism.
Cringe worthy.
I suppose others might feel that by showcasing the very over the top progressive agenda that is actually such a real part of today’s landscape (if I pay for the theft committed by an oppressed person, then its really not theft, is it?) then perhaps they think that’s the biting charm of this series.
Not sure. But pretty sure I’ll never finish watching episode 5.
