Great cast, poor film. It’s difficult to say where it went wrong. Seemed to get caught between a comedy and a drama. Haven’t read the books, so maybe that’s what it the film is meant to be.

Pierce Brosnan is superb in (as) The Last Rifleman which was listed as a comedy when I found and watched recently on a cruise. There are a number of poignant and indeed very sad ingredients, which Brosnan deals with admirably. It is far fetched in parts; the Film tries to do a lot and I feel generally succeeds. The part where he has to travel on the coach with the German veterans is unforgettable. The low ‘Rotten Tomato’ rating not a true reflection of the quality and relevance of this movie.
