The book has no place in the classroom curriculum. Basically, it teaches rebellion against parents, the Catholic Church, lack of respect for her culture, losing her virginity with enough explicit details afforded to the reader. There’s plenty of wonderful literature to be taught to students. I’m a seasoned, Master teacher of ELA, a certified English, history, Special Education LD, and a Reading Specialist teacher. I studied the finest literature through the Department Headmaster of English literature and the Department Headmaster of African American literature at the University of Michigan in the mid 90’s. I accomplished a Masters in Special Education and Reading in the 2000’s. I think I am a fair judge. Stop putting personal agendas on our students. Teach! Teach! What should be taught.
