Pac-Man Museum + is a compilation that had potential when it was announced, but ultimately falls short in reality.
While the number of games on offer is nice, and the missions to complete within each game are fun to undertake, problems become apparent quickly. The customizable “arcade” front end is plagued by frame rate issues. There aren’t cabinets for all of the games on offer, so players must access a separate menu to play them. The emulation for the games varies. There is significant input lag and/or lackluster input response, which leads to unfair deaths.
Namco has done better with its Museum releases in the past. This one is a disappointment when considering that it heralds one of the company’s signature franchises. It’s not a complete disaster, but it’s not a great effort, either. Wait for a sale.
