It has been ages since I had abandoned the world of typical saas-bahu dramas. But then, on Instagram, the short reels of "Barister Babu" unexpectedly grabbed my attention. I initially planned to watch it until I grew bored, especially after learning that it had a daunting 408 episodes. However, this series continued to captivate me, delving into various social issues, particularly those affecting the marginalized sections of our society, issues that persist even today. "Barister Babu" possessed a truly distinctive narrative.
It courageously challenged the societal norms of the pre-independence era. It fearlessly addressed subjects like child marriage, sati, the plight of widows, the struggles of abandoned women, the importance of female education, the fight for women's rights, girl trafficking, molestation, the dark side of child marriages, menstruation, and the unrealistic expectations society imposes on child brides as soon as they reach puberty, not to forget the ever-persistent issue of dowry. These themes were artfully depicted without reservation.
From the enchanting title song to the powerful dialogues, and the stellar performances by the cast, this show won my heart. Without a doubt, "Barister Babu" stands as the pinnacle of Indian television, a web of flawless storytelling where each character had a compelling story to tell.
The true gem of this series was Anirudh Roy Chowdhary, a character so brilliantly portrayed by Pravisht. Pravisht has done a flawless job in portraying this character so beautifully. He makes you fall in love with him more after every scene. The characters noble intentions often clashed with his fiery temper, and witnessing his child bride bringing out the best in him was truly remarkable. It was incredible to watch a man so supportive and going out of his way to give wings to his woman so she can fly high. You can't help falling in love with not just the character but Pravisht.
The character Bondita portrayed by Aura too was awesome. He innocence was portrayed with such purity that it was impossible to look away from her expressive eyes and her exceptional acting skills. She's literally a chota packet bhada dhamaka. You definitely can't stop watching her.
Both Pravisht and Aurra are definitely going to reach great heights.
My other three favourite characters bhari babu, sampoora ma and kaka sasurji.
Kaka Sasur jee, like the proverbial coconut, appeared tough on the outside but held a soft heart within. He cared, he loved, he admonished, and he wept.
Kaka Sasur jee is like the coconut we all definitely need in our loves.
I devoured the entire series and still find myself captivated by the storyline and characters. There's a strong temptation to rewatch it. I even revisited a few episodes multiple times without ever growing tired of them.
It's safe to say that I've had a sleepless week, willing to forsake work, food, and sleep just to indulge in this show day and night. The entire cast delivered outstanding performances. Unlike the typical saas-bahu drama, "Barister Babu" offers substantial takeaways, even in today's generation where women often hold themselves back. It ignites a revolutionary spark within, reminding us that we, too, can make a significant impact.
The title song, dialogues, the characters, the actors portraying these characters have my heart.
Kudos to the entire team of "Barister Babu"!!
We need more series like this, ones that challenge societal norms and inspire change.
Carpe Diem!! ❤️
