This is a fantastic book to introduce first graders about the history of flight in the early 1900's. Students get a bit exposed to Europe at that time and the French language since all of the character names are all French. Thankfully my daughter knows French well so she helped me with the correct pronunciation. The primary literary devices used are onomatopoeia and descriptive poetry. I also used it as a lead in to introducing other significant American aviators such as: the Wright brothers, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart.
