This film is indescribable to an extent but I will try.
Leave The World Behind is a stunning depiction of the dystopian art form. I thought the film featured a phenomenal script, stellar cinematography, witty product placement, poignant music, well coached acting, all while being extremely thought provoking.
The film is cerebral in the best ways and Sam Esmail should be credited for his long form storytelling. On top of the film just being visually beautiful, I loved the nods to great directors and their respective styles. I saw Hitchcock, Peele, Kubrick, and Nolan in here. That was wonderfully done.
I still have no idea what was up with the deer towards the end but I loved the over all ending. G.H. Ruth, Rosa, Clay, Archie, Danny, Amanda, Rose -characters I have been thinking about for the last 17 hours since I saw the film. I’m happy that Netflix won the bidding war to release this piece. I don’t think I would have had as easy access to see it otherwise.
In regard to other reviews you may read below, those who didn’t enjoy the film are simpletons and mindless white folk screaming that the Black characters within are racist. LAUGHABLE. Meanwhile in real life, they don’t know who two time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is and think that he’s either an up and coming actor OR a has been. You all disgust me.
These reviewer's blame Michelle and Barack Obama for the dumbest things around a film that they so graciously executive produced, proving that the reviewer does not understand what it means to have executive produced a film.
Lastly, to the reviewers below, you don’t have to use “…” when you finish a sentence any longer. You’re using a smart phone, tablet, or computer to write your review. Those devices work differently than typewriters. Release yourselves.
