A truly wonderful book, to be read over and over.
Only quibble, which an editor should have picked up, is the dates. The introduction explains that C.E. dates convert to Hijra dates by adding 622 - but the subsequent text adds almost every number but 622! The example in the explanation is “for example, Sarraj (d. 378/988).” That is adding 610, not 622. The next dozen examples are all wrong, on the basis of the explanation given.
But this is merely baffling and irritating, in an otherwise superb book.
