I really enjoyed it - I'd give it a solid 8.5/10.
The animated original is my all-time favourite Disney film so I was a little sceptical about watching the live-action remake.
The film stays true to the original in all of it's charm and magic and does an excellent job of modernising and bringing the characters to life.
Mena Massoud does play a brilliant Aladdin and the rest of the cast were great. I had initial concerns about Will Smith portraying the Genie - not due to Will as I love some of his other films - but just because it's such a huge role to fill. And of course, Naomi Scott played a great Jasmine.
The main reason I haven't given it a 9 or 10 is probably due to it feeling a little like a musical at times. The separation of song and story wasn't really clear and personally - felt a little confusing. When I say little, I mean little. The film on the whole is incredible and I fully intend on seeing it another one...maybe two times.
The ONLY thing I would have liked to have seen is some of the back and forth between Iago and Abu that the original had. I completely appreciate why this wasn't included as the film has a slightly darker and serious undertone than the original but nonetheless that's just me!
