As I write this, I am currently walking through the live in-game concert. (No spoilers) I’ve been gaming for decades now. I grew up on games like Max Payne, Assassin’s Creed 2, OG Modern Warfare, Splinter Cell, and other masterpieces of the golden age of creative gaming, before the industry was taken over by balance sheets, recurring revenue linked content churn, cosmetic RPGs and the companies that won millions of kids’ hearts and taught them how to dream, themselves lost their soul. Then comes in this game called Alan Wake 2. 1 hour into the game, and my heart tells me that this is going to be a masterpiece. I will leave this review mostly empty, for this game isn’t meant to played or reviewed. It is meant to be experienced and enjoyed. Dear reader, if you’re in two minds before buying or playing this game, make the choice to say yes, pick up the controller or sit at your keyboard, breathe in and press ‘Play’. You will be playing something that will be talked about decades from today. For this game brings something that most games of today lost - a soul.
