I have to agree with some of the other viewers here. The movie is beautifully shot, and the performances are absolutely stellar. But there are several key moments that leave the viewer feeling lost/confused, that never get resolved. I read the synopsis after watching the film, and frankly said to myself, "Wait... I was supposed to gather THAT from the film? And if so, then why didn't character-unnamed-to-avoid-spoilers do xyz-action??
Perhaps some of this is due to sub-optimal editing? Regardless, the film ultimately hangs rather loosely together. Still, totally gorgeous, and brilliantly acted. I also loved how much relative silence was incorporated into the sound (as in, scenes with minimal dialogue and virtually no music). This definitely contributed to the intensity in the most natural and therefore perhaps effective way.
