Too long, masturbatory, self indulgent. I have really enjoyed some of his other films, but this is closer to Killing of a Sacred Deer in that it just made me feel horrible during and afterwards.
TL:DR The only person who will rave about this film is your poncy f*boy ex boyfriend who always though he was smarter than you.
Quite frankly I am bored and angry at rape and violence against women being such a theme in his and other people's work. It's lazy, and harmful, and we have had enough.
First film of the three was the best, if you've watched a lot of Korean horror the themes of control and self mutilation will be familiar. But there was better pacing, and we hadn't tired of seeing all the actors yet. Still deeply dark, but you are able to pick up on subtle clues as to the next twist in just enough time that it's enjoyable.
Downhill from there I'm afraid. Some good ideas, but the constant female nudity (yes, William D gets naked too but it's much more coy) was tiring, and resorted to hurting women instead of an actual plot.
I think everyone involved probably had a lot of fun and is feeling very smug with themselves, sadly it was so unenjoyable as a viewer.
Some great actors, and some good performances - particularly by supporting actors (the cop best friend, the police shrink, the hotel barman)
Very little kindness, very little point.
