Young Sheldon, appropriately set in the 90’s, harks back to a time of wholesome, heartwarming TV. It is simple, uncomplicated, authentic relatable, and damn funny. And for unwavering fans of The Big Bang Theory, the sporadic references to the characters’ “present” lives give an especially warm layer of nostalgia to viewers, as they are given glimpses of how the characters’ lives turned out, as narrated by Sheldon.
“Missy” deserves special mention as Sheldon’s spunky, irreverent but insightful twin sister, brilliantly brought to life by Raegan Revord. Little Sheldon is of course remarkable, but Missy being a “normal” kid has more nuance and dimension, and every bit of it shines through.
I can only hope the series goes on for as long as TBBT did.
