!! LOTS OF INACCURATE REVIEWS from people who clearly did not watch the movie, and simply want to continue pushing the far-right false narrative that “the LGBTQ+ community is pushing an agenda or trying to ‘indoctrinate’ children.” That claim, across the board, is simply untrue, not correct, misinformation, fake news, etc.
It’s also scary that in the year 2023 so many of these reviewers are just blatantly and shamelessly homophobic and racist. Like out loud, no Fs given. Yikes.
This movie is SO inclusive in so many ways; why anyone would have an issue with that is beyond me. It’s fun and exciting and heartwarming. One of the main characters is a high-school-aged boy (16) with a love interest who is also a boy. WELCOME TO 2023. The negative reviewers seem to really be up in arms about the “romantic relationship” playing out in a children’s movie; however:
A) that is totally inaccurate. No relationship “plays out” in any way between the two boys.
And B) hi, have you seen EVERY Disney movie ever (prior to Frozen) that didn’t involve a princess falling in love with a prince?! Give me a break!
I didn’t see conservatives complaining about THOSE romantic relationships. But, those relationships align with their personal beliefs, which apparently is the only thing that matters.
Someone in another review mentioned that in “one of the first scenes of the movie, the parents say to their son, ‘what 16yo old doesn’t want to see their parents smooching?’” The reviewer makes it sound like it was literal question, but it was total sarcasm during their teenage son’s cringe reaction to walking into the kitchen while his parents were kissing (it’s animation, so it wasn’t the least bit derogatory). It’s actually relatable for kids with (interracial) parents who have a very happy and healthy relationship; a rarity these days, but relatable to lots of us.
Someone else mentioned in another review that the father deserted the son and after 25 years they reunite, and “it’s like nothing ever happened.” I swear some of these people didn’t watch the movie. The father and son have a VERY awkward relationship throughout the movie after reuniting, and its only toward the end of the movie that they begin to talk and mend their relationship.
It’s incredible how much time and energy far-right conservatives will put into pushing a completely false agenda about the LGBTQ+ community being “pushed” onto their children, just so they can further persecute those who are different from themselves. And they are doing so while trying to indoctrinate the rest of the us with Christianity and they have been doing it for all of FOREVER with zero shame. Unreal. But keep hiding behind your little magical book, so you can be hateful, when supposedly the most important direction in the bible is to “Love Thy Neighbor.” Ironic, but not really, since everyone knows most Christians are the biggest hypocrites on the planet.
