Spoiler alerts: If you arenโt ok with teachers having sexual relationships with their hs students, then you shouldnโt watch this. This is basically the same thing. One of the first scenes shows high school boy Brad mast*rbating while his teen girlfriend is on her knees praying at his bedside, as he stares into the eyes of his motherโs friend, Margo (a woman in her 40โs). That same evening, Margoโs husband Jed is in a hot tub with getting cozy with two women; one is topless. Then later the Brad (the teen) is giving Margo or*l while her new friend Sophie watches.
Sophie, meanwhile, a โgreat momโ whoโs been sober for 2 years after k**ling someone while drunk driving, completely caves to peer pressure. Sheโs doing things that she is clearly uncomfortable with immediately after meeting these shallow women- women she told her husband she was not interested in befriending. Sophie was totally ok with ignoring her husband and little boy repeatedly while she was casually throwing away her sobriety and marriage vows. Sophie, a late 30โs, former self-assured PR rep, is so weak that sheโs riding with people who have been drinking; then getting drunk, buying/sho*ting g*ns (with no safety training or precautions); kissing an 18-year-old high school boy; and later having an affair with Margo. WTF.
Can we not normalize adults having s*x with high schoolers?! IDC if the boys were โinto it,โ or โlegalโ, they are portrayed as high school students. Thatโs a major ick factor. (Yes, I realize that IRL the guys are actually in their early 20โs, and the women are also 39 and 47). I would be livid to see a show where men were involved with teenaged girls, and it is hypocrisy to think this scenario should be any different.
The acting was good enough. I just struggled to find a single likable character (Starr excluded, at least in the scenes I saw). Margo was trash. Sheโs in an extramarital s*xual relationship with her friendโs child and at least 2 women. Sophie was totally ok with ignoring her husband and little boy repeatedly while she was casually throwing away her sobriety and marriage vows. Fri
What Iโve read, it gets worseโฆ
I was really hoping to find a good murder drama, even if this contained lots of stereotypes and unbelievable scenarios. Instead, I found shallow stereotypes and borderline soft po*n. I found the gratuitous n*dity, voyeurism, and s*x, particularly scenes with a barely legal boy, to be icky. I made it 1/2 way through episode 3 before I gave up. Do better, Netflix!
