I really wanted to like Parenthood, especially as a fan of Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls. But after a while, all I could hear was everyone just yelling over each other. The constant raised voices made the show feel more chaotic than heartfelt. Mae Whitmanโs character is always crying, and while that might be realistic, it becomes emotionally exhausting to watch. Lauren Graham plays what feels like a recycled version of her Gilmore Girls persona, a "cool" but emotionally unstable mom who struggles to listen and constantly talks over others.
To be fair, the show does a great job portraying dysfunctional family dynamics. Maybe thatโs why I found it so frustrating. But personally, it wasnโt the kind of emotional rollercoaster I enjoyed riding. If youโre into high-stress, emotionally charged family drama, this might be your thing. For me, it was just too much.
