While the visuals of this movie is spectacular, the story and pacing is handled so poorly it makes the movie a confusing and irritable experience. I found myself questioning what was going on the entirety of this movie, and by the end of it I still found myself confused what the point of it was. What is the theme meant to be? What is the moral of the story? The pacing makes it feel as though you are missing out on several chunks of information. The film tries to be deep without any meaningful substance- and this shows very apparent by the end of it when two children characters are the victims of abuse but nothing is done about it other than the characters essentially, “I can stand up for myself now.” As if that would genuinely deter any legitimate abuser. The movie tries to portray that you can just will power your way out of abuse and doesn’t even really show if they get help or not?
I will say yes, this studio does great at making movies where you cry at certain scenes- but so often I find myself unsatisfied and disappointed with the endings. They often make no sense and leave you feeling confused. I wouldn’t watch this movie again.
