Read this in Honors English and I have to say that I loved it! There were multiple chapters in which I understood why the characters operated the way they did, why the conflicts between them arose, and the battles they fought in their lifetime. Magpies will always be my favorite chapter for reason of how sad, but true to life it was. In certain points of the book, I can certainly say I was close to tears, but one factor that can ruin the book is a lack of empathy. You can admit to yourself that these stories are sad, but unless you can understand why they are, they really won't matter, at least that's what I've seen in my peers reviews.
