Now, I actually did finish this book hoping it would get better. It didn't. The main relationship is border line abuse with the man physically keeping her from leaving when she wants to exit a situation, saying things like "that's not a request, it's an order" and "if you do that thing you are perfectly capable of doing but I have decided it's unsafe then we are done and going back inside", and telling instead of asking her to leave the country. He treats her like a child and I don't care if he's over 1000 years old, she's an adult and her own person who can make her own decisions. (Spoilers, but not really, doesn't have anything to do with the story) Oh, and they go from never having met to married in less than a month, and get married without her knowledge or concent. Over half the book explores this relationship to the point the plot and my reason for reading was completely lost. I suffered through it hoping they would get back to the point and they never did. Typical damsel in distress and controlling partner. Read it for the magic, which is barely present. I couldn't even recommend this to you if you wanted romance, it's a bad example of that genre too.
