Odd book. Almost seems ghost-written. Something about a pro-bono death row case totally disappears 10% into the book. 90% of the book is about a convoluted mess of people raising ransom money to a convoluted band of terrorists (the reader never finds out who the terrorists are, how they devised their plan, or any of their inner-workings).
The book had barely any of the typical Grisham flair, and one part that did, obviously wasn’t remotely edited. The protagonist’s kids did their homework online? In 2005? That definitely wasn’t happening. In 2005 we went to a computer lab full of ancient PC’s once a month.
Anyway, most disappointing Grisham book since Sooley. Sooley had a terrible denouement, in my opinion. The Exchange, flat out doesn’t have one.
