Good game, Great concept and interesting story. It feels like a different take on Roguelike adventure games. Returnal has so much potential but is dragged back by it trying to be more challenging than it has to be, I love a good challenge but the line between challenging and frustrating can sometimes be pretty thin, I didn't feel like the game was too hard or too challenging but I found myself constantly annoyed to the point where frustration kicked it and realized I wasn't enjoying the game. It's not one of the hardest games I've ever played but I fell its one of the most annoying which is where I feel the developers dropped the ball. It's beautiful and fun to play at times but Once I overcame the last boss instead of yelling out a victory scream with excitement I just said "finally" and got more satisfaction out of deleting the game off my ps5 than actually beating it which isn't a good experience. If I have to compare this game it would have to be with hades, Hades is a roguelike game where its very challenging with options of making it more challenging if you wanted, the enemies didn't feel like they were being spammed on to my screen and the fact that you could do 40 minute runs to pass the game was a perfect balance. Returnal can have quick runs to painfully long runs which also had me doubting if I wanted to commit to it for the night. My biggest issue with this game was the last section, I dont plan on spoiling it but I will say that from starting the game in such beautiful places with interesting enemies to then going to a pitch black space where you get constantly spammed attacks from uninteresting enemies that look like a metal balls and octopi kamikazeing in to you while struggling with the tight landscape to not fall of to your death was such a downgrade it makes it hard to recommend this game.
