It's entertaining, B-level sci-fi. People just love to give one-star ratings out these days to anything with the slightest imperfection. It's not must-watch tv but it's definitely not a 1-star show.
I love how the setting amps up the tension naturally, and found the characters pretty believable (not over-glamorous Hollywood types), and the CGI was just enough to convey something mysterious. To me this was like a fun mashup of The Mist, The Hunt For Red October, and Stargate Universe. Enjoy it for what it is.
