If the film’s goal was to call to action and unite people together, i wish they did a better job of reinstalling faith in people by giving characters room to grow & transform. People actions/behaviors in this film are all based on external factors. They all made sense, sure. But they felt being dragged around by the uncontrollable external forces, reinforcing the belief that people are powerless and cannot be trusted. Of course people are going to look after themselves, but this film could have done better than just predicting the future based on how people are set up. I wish there was someone who stood up and took a proactive step to change their attitude or beliefs about the world/ other people, and not because of their animals instincts. Everyone kinda just all went with the flow. Everything was so predictable and understandable but unsatisfying. They did a good job developing the characters to make them believable but they are uninspired snd soul-less. There was no hero in this story - which I expected to be someone who decided not to react to the uncontrollable circumstances but instead had faith. I would’ve liked to see an anomaly in one of the characters that led people to proactively choose to help each other out not because someone had to beg for help. It’d be nice to see someone that gave other people hope. The challenge then is that would seem too unrealistic to some people. But I’m just so tired of seeing characters with no heart or purpose in a film like this trying to make an impact. I think it tried its best to avoid being too preachy but the film didn’t seem to care about us viewers and how we’d feel by giving us that unsatisfying ending. Call me naive and unrealistic but heart is what we need right now to heal this world. Not “I told you so”.
