For the most part i was thinking i wouldn't watch this show because i love the LOTR movies, and i this would be some kind of lightweight poor adaptation that would water down my experience with LOTR and the hobbit movies - I'm pleasantly surprised with this show and waiting on the following episodes now.
For me, almost all the characters in the show are a fantastic, likeable in some kind of way, not idiots - the show builds on there characters well, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them, i could even say it was a tad emotional on one certain episode, which was a surprise giving the depth of the development and acting here.
Another massive thing this show has going for it, the vistas and settings are amazing - the script is also pretty great so far, while watching the show there's so many mysteries that I'm wondering about, and the connection it has with TLOR as i know it.
I would defiantly suggest this show to anyone that likes TLOR and hobbit movies. even if your a purist with Tolkein's work, this could easily be watched as good entertainment if you can decide that this is something to just enjoy, that may not be be a perfect fit in TLOR Lore.
The last thing I'll say is very rarely I'll see a good show that has interesting likeable characters that don't behave like idiots, and for me this is the most important part of enjoying anything i watch - so far this show has delivered on this.
