This film is well-made enough to deserve its 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it still deserves a thumbs down for its obvious lack of regard for the fact that people will bring their 4 and 5 year old children to see it. This film is NOT meant for kids of those ages. Clearly Paramount was banking on the Dora name as a cash grab, regardless of the ire of parents who have to explain that Diego doesn’t HATE his cousin, and that none of the characters are going to DIE OUT HERE, two sentiments that are stated out loud and in detail by characters in the movie. I’m not even going to go into the digging of the “poo hole” that may or may not be “filled with snakes”, as Dora SINGS in the movie. That’s right. Dora SINGS ABOUT DIGGING A HOLE FOR POOPING IN. A character cries about “bleeding out”, when in fact it was just a juice box in his pack that was hit by an arrow, not a vital organ. Again, there’s nothing offensive about these tropes in and of themselves. The offense is in Paramount and Nickelodeon’s lack of concern for overtly communicating that this movie is not ok for little children.
