This is very well the best game I have played in the past few years. Before GoT, I considered Red Dead Redemption 2 to be the best game I had played in a while, with Resident Evil 2 Remake being a close 2nd. Although these are three very different games the playability in them proves enjoyable, whether it’s your first or third play through. I am writing this a good 10-12 hours into the game. I find many people saying “there’s the same old open world side quests” and “it gets repetitive”. I would disagree, this game does have some of those things, but delivers a fresh narrative that will negate the feeling of repetitiveness and replace it with awe. The presentation of this game does not require someone to rush or feel like they need to “level up” to have fun. Everything in this game to me has happened organically with such beauty and depth of feeling. I have always felt that the enemies of games like Far Cry are very generic “cultists” or “tribes” that don’t really implore the player to feel for the victims of the story or feel a sense of honor in beating them. This game makes you feel for the people of Tsushima and the honor of a samurai. You experience the code of Sakai and the other clans, as you battle to regain control of your home. All the small negatives I have seen from other reviews, such as Jin not having many facial emotions, i think is explained very well in the story. From the breathtaking scenery to the simplistic mechanic of composing a Haiku after you follow a golden bird to a secreted place of meditation, Ghost of Tsushima has provided a game of the year experience.
