I have very mixed feelings about this game. I have seen this franchise decline tremendously since I started playing with World at War. I got it as a gift from a friend and lets just say I am very glad that they only paid $10 to gift it to me and I didn't pay a dime for it. I enjoy some aspects of it, such as the campaign and zombies; personally, I feel multiplayer is by far its weakest link.
First off, campaign, it was great. I enjoyed every second of it. It felt immersive and well done, but it was a shame that it was short. I'm not going into depth with it because I don't want to spoil anything, but it was one of the best Call of Duty campaigns I have played. However, the cut scenes and loading screens were unbearable due to the unbearable and quite frankly unacceptable lag and choppiness of the video.
Zombies, is zombies, what can I say. You spend hours climbing through the hordes. I can say that I do enjoy some of the new features to make it different and unique. I like that you can play zombies and progress with multiplayer levels, however I don't foresee myself playing multiplayer a whole lot. My only real attraction to this game was the new zombies mode; which was advertised as being free to all players just like warzone in MW. And it is yet to be free, you still have to buy the full game.
And finally, multiplayer. Oh boy, another run-n-gun, camp-fest, broken SBMM multiplayer. Except, this one seems more broken than some of the others I have played. Running around it feels very clunky and slow, the bugs in the system, the sheer disappointment in what feels like an unfinished product. Following MW, which had its fair share of problems, it feels like 5 steps back with the flow and smoothness of the game. I usually say that game have potential, but I having difficulty find anything really unique about multiplayer in this game. Same mechanics, same feel, same game as the last game, and the one before that, and the one before that, and so on.
The spawns feel linear and broken, meaning that you get 2 places to spawn, and if the enemy is camping both spots, which they most likely are, well too bad. I find myself jumping from one end of the map to the other because there is no where safe to spawn. Sometimes, spawning with the enemy and immediately get blasted only to spawn there again.
Skill Based Match Making is still a terrible idea simply because it thinks that camping in a corner scoped in on a door way is "skill" vs actually moving and playing the game normally. There needs to be a balancing mechanic that deters sitting in a single spot the entire game with a gas mine or proximity mine. It is not enjoyable to do really good in one game with people who are obviously way less familiar with the game, to another game where everyone is level 400+ and not a single person moves. The games usually end by time limit than point limit.
I will admit, in recent months, it has gotten better in some ways, but remains the same in most. And for them to basically merge this game with Modern Warfare feels like a money scheme if anything. To say this game is its own entity and charge $60+ for it, and then have it split half it's features with MW is pretty lazy design; i.e. Warzone. It just does not make sense to me.
