I think this movie is for a certain kind of Batman fan. They seem to fall into two camps. Christopher Nolan Batman, and then campy/older iterations of Batman (including adaptations that are more comic-inspired, such as the Telltale series). I fall into the latter and loved this movie. It's like watching a live action version of the Batman animated series, tho a bit darker. I liked the Christopher Nolan series but this is a refreshing return to the strange world of Batman. It's a bit quirky, Robert Pattinson is a big emo kid, but IDC. It's over the top on its villains and it's fun. Not quite Tim Burton but not Nolan. Somewhere in between.

I loved it. I’m a hardcore TR/Lara fan and this was a delight. If you grew up playing any of the games, you’ll agree there’s definitely elements of Tomb Raider and Lara in all of the episodes. There’s even similar locations/scenarios. They paid tribute to past Lara adventures, both movie and game-wise (the mythical T-Rex was a bit much, but I’ll allow it – it’s exactly the kind of absurd thing you’d find in early TR). As for the other characters, their dynamic with Lara, Lara’s seemingly “weak” behavior, and the various complaints other viewers have...I don’t have a problem with any of it. I think these might be people new to the franchise who completely missed the point. The characters add levity and something of interest for younger audiences, but they don’t diminish Lara’s adventurous personality. Y’know. Kind of like in real life? Your friends might be different, but you’re still you. I loved Zip in the games and I’m glad they added him here. If they continue to show Lara being a badass, I’ll have no problem with it. Even the Witcher – a very serious, somber character – has friends who appear in his stories and add playfulness and show other sides of Geralt. It’s necessary to keep things from feeling two dimensional. I think a more nostalgic “villain” would be cool going forward– someone similar to Natla. So lighten up, people. It’s a lighthearted adventure series that’s loads of fun. Take it for what it is and enjoy the ride.
