Either I’m slow or this movie was wayyyy over my head. I love Al Pacino, his movies and the characters he play, but I didn’t really get this Manglehorn character or the moral of the story. Didn’t really understand his obsession (for years) with the one that got away, Clara. Nothing was really explained why the relationship with his son was strained. The love/caring for his cat was cute, but it was a little indifferent when compared to the caring displayed to his only son. Holly Hunters character, as sweet as it was, just wanted to be liked by this Manglehorn guy, who was all but a complete a$& on their first date. If you can sit through the 1 1/2 hrs to the end, he does kind of make amends with himself and others he’s offended. You have to make it to the end though. Took me 2 agonizing tries.
