I found Maggie Beer to be patronising towards both staff and residents. Implying that malnutrition in nursing homes is due to uninteresting food, ignores issues like dementia, depression and just decreasing appetite with age. In my experience, good nursing homes aim to provide nutritious, cost-effective food. The average nursing home resident would not have been preparing restaurant style meals prior to their admission. I knew little about Maggie Beer prior to watching this program. I felt that she expected everyone to be grateful for her involvement and she seemed shocked when she met with resistance A lighter touch, displaying sensitivity and "working with" rather than "knowing best", might have made this a worthwhile show.
