Azdren Coma

I was in high school in 2003. The iphone would have looked just like a PDA from the early 2000s. People had pocked PC's from the mid 1990's. Most kids in high school in 2003 had cell phones already. They weren't iPhones, but they did have Motorola's. Also, the girls in high school did not dress like that, it was more so the fashion of middle schoolers of that era. I mean, 2003 was not that long ago, it would have taken asking just one person who was in high school in 2003 to be able to help fix and make this movie so much more believable.

I liked a lot about this game. Seattle looked mind-blowing as a post-apocalyptic city. The game play itself is fun, scary at times, and engaging. The story is good. Not the best story, but still good. What I did not like was how there would literally be at times four cinematic scenes one after another. In other words, the balance between gameplay and movie was lost a bit. There was too much "movie" in this game. I think the story tellers could have done better to tell the story more efficiently without leaving the player just passively watching for extended periods of time. Also, without giving spoilers away, the ending was too strung out, too long, and a bit unfulfilling. I liked how the two different stories of the main characters came together, but their end was a bit anticlimactic.

Not once did I feel like this movie took the time, not even for a minute, to tell the audience about WHY Napoleon has been such a fascinating figure in history. Ok, we saw in this film that he was stubborn, and independent minded, and brave, but I can list 1000 stubborn, independent, and brave generals throughout history. This is my substantive critique. My cinematic critique is about how it felt like the majority of the battles took place at dusk, poorly lit, you couldn't even see the red of the blood as 3,000,000 Frenchman died to the actions of Napoleon. It was not the spectacle I was hoping for. Disappointed, to see the least.

As far as storytelling goes, Wish has strayed far from the powerful storytelling that the Disney classic films possessed. Also, I did not like how the very first instance of physical violence in the film happened when the protagonist (Asha) pushed a dresser onto the antagonist (King Magnifico). I don't believe that showing the hero as being the first to instigate violence is a good message for any child watching this film.
