Just watched a piece on tipping at restaurants. The idea put forward by this piece was that tipping is getting to be out of hand and in some cases obnoxious. What this report didn't hit on, that seems to escape everyone is that the owners of these restaurants require their staff to tip them 5, 6, 7% of their net sales. What that means is that if a customers bill comes to $100 then the server has to give $7 to their employer no matter if the customer leaves a tip or not! This is completely legal and nobody talks about it, even during this report! Good job Marketplace!
