What if an amateur filmmaker with poor taste and a love for all the worst elements of comic book dialogue was given a Netflix budget and asked to make 10 hours of content?
An absolute mess that falters at some of the more basic components of drama, pacing, and storytelling.
Musical choices are nonsense, the tone 180s between scenes and within the same scene so often you’ll get whiplash. Totally distinct visual stylings are employed seemingly at random. Several shots (like the dollhouse one in episode 1) are visually intriguing but serve no purpose; the cinematography reads like every time someone said “I have this idea for a cool shot, but I don’t know if it fits” they just went with it. Many scenes in the second half are pointlessly long or extended. It really feels like they had to pad for time.
This feels like a 2.5 star series that was plagued by inexperience and subsequently butchered in the edit. It came out the other side as a 1.5 or 2 star series.
