As someone who had read the book I was very excited, and had been hyped since this movie was announced, but left the theater very disappointed. (SPOILERS) First, the story changes the number of boys walking and cuts out some characters, which I can kinda understand because you can't really fit that into a two hour movie. Second, the movie undermines some main characters, like Stebbins, changes some character's backstories drastically, doesn't discuss many topics stated in the book, and they kill like 20 boys in less than and three minutes sequence. The only reason this movie got more than one star for me is because I liked the cinematography, violence, and sadness. But the main reason this movie is getting two stars is the ENDING. That ending was absolutely crap. To be honest I'm only a bit mad that McVries won. I REALLY don't think they should have killed the Major, because that defeats the ENTIRE message of the book. Which is that no one wins in a society meant to break you, BUT in the movie instead of having a dark figure symbolizing mental limit, GARRATY STILL GETS HIS WISH FOR VENGEANCE, which shouldn't even exist it the first place, EVEN THOUGH in the movie Garraty dies. So in all, one time watch, read the book instead.
