I was the same age of the boys when Stand by Me was released, this was the movie of my youth. I am now the same age as Richard Dreyfus’s character so I have a new perspective as an adult. As a kid, I loved the adventure of going on a journey against your parents knowledge, that was cool. As an adult, I focus on the friendships and particularly close and special friendship between Chris and Gordy, a friend that understands and accepts you. As I now know that is a rare and special occurrence in life. Then the inevitable distancing and in Chris’s case the loss of him. This movie has special meaning to me and has been a source of great comfort. I believe the movie brings us back to a care free, simple time, in life, I suspect many would like to return to, and be with our friends again.
