I have read many books about the lives of those surrounding Hitler. His secretaries, adjutants, valet, housekeepers, chauffeur, pilot and many more. Intensely interested in the minutiae of day-to-day life and the work of his staff I relished the ‘fly on the wall’ observations of this time and place in history.
‘On Hitler’s mountain’ is a new perspective for this genre of book and stands out from all the others for its honest portrayal of life for an ordinary family in an extraordinary place and time. It perfectly deals with the emotions, hardship, hopes and fears of individual family members. Well structured and very well written I would assume this book to have been a cathartic experience Irmgard to write.
I for one appreciate her story and would recommend it.
