Very decent film , for an oldie, but the Hammer team made a good show of it, if you’ve seen The Postman Always Rings Twice, well imho this similar movie is much better. There is also a Far Eastern film, maybe of the same name, but I’ve totally forgotten title now , which has a minor similarity, ie., to the beginning . If you are sick of that dread CGI then give this a go, it’s well filmed and actors are decent enough. Maybe Norman Bird is somewhat miscast as a Gendarme , but he wasn’t too well known back then, and as Vickie Michelle said, it pays the rent , there’s an enigma for you.

Without a doubt the best portrayal of Jesus I have ever seen, Powell is stunning. How any critic can knock this series is beyond me. We have to jump from Jesus being a babe, up to when He was a grown-up as nothing at all is known about His teenage years . He could have helped his parent in woodwork business , or could have lounged about all day, just dreaming. We will never know. Unless of course the Vatican stops being a secret society and let’s some press and scholars view the mountains of ancient text to shed light on his early life. Cults that do that, I believe have an awful lot to hide, and lose should some truths come out. It isn’t going to happen for certain.

One of the best, and funniest satirical films ever made, of course it`s British, no one does satire like we do. The great Peter O`Toole at his absolute maddest, and funniest. Well worth watching, time and again; at least every ten years or so. Good old Peter
