Grease for me is the most mixed bag of a film. I live the songs in it and Frenchy is the best thing to come out of this film. I found Rizzo to be enjoyable even if she was a jerk. I like Jan enough and her romance with Roger. I didn't like many of the T-birds other than Roger and Doodie.
But where this film falls flat is the main characters. Danny Zuko is one of the most insufferable person I have ever seen in Media, he is pathetic and when he does have some depth towards the film and I start to like him and believe he has grown the writers throw that all away in favour for Sandy changing so he'd love her. He is genuinely the worst thing to come out of this movie. Sandy isn't much better, although she is way more likeable she is just bland. The only character she gets is at the end and it is at the expense of Danny's growth, which frustrates me more because if she was still just bland at least we'd have another great character.
Another thing is there's way to many plotlines going on at once and it starts to feel crowded. Another thing is the characters don't feel like characters, especially Sandy. Frenchy, Rizzo, Roger and Jan are the only ones that feel like they have any Personality, and even then the only characters with much depth is Frenchy. Frenchy's storyline is pretty great and made the film so much more great, and is the only reason it's getting four stars. Her story is great and I feel like it is a shame Frenchy isn't in a better movie.
Another thing that bugs me about Grease is Vince Fontaine. If you've watch the film you'd know why.
Overall the experience was enjoyable enough, but could have been way better with a few tweaks.
