This Rolling Thunder film is above and beyond Excellent. Dylan was, and is every bit the Poet that Walt Whitman was (& is). I've read these articles where hack "critics" complain & grumble about how Dylan is hard to understand and how & he & Scorsese "lied" to us by making this film. These are the whinings of people who spend way too much of their lives piddling on about "pop culture" and grovelling to editorial demands to "dumb it all down" for the readers. Dylan's RT tour - and in fact most of his private life (for anyone who doesn't already know) is entirely of his own sleight-of-hand and circus Imaginings - so why shouldn't this film be as it is? Dylan is not a "celebrity". Dylan is not a "hero" for those who fail to devise their own heroism. And Dylan is not a "product". Dylan is an ACTUAL Artist - not what "entertainment tonight" calls an artist, but the Real Thing. Who would be stupid enough to tell Matisse or Picasso or Kahlo what & how to paint? Who would be stupid enough to say to them, "Look, these parts of this painting are all made up, not real, a lie!" ? Who would be so stupid? The correct way to witness the work of a Dylan is in humility and in the Joy of watching something of this intensity and Beauty arise. if you can't grasp that, walk away from it & go do something useful - maybe write a song, or paint on your wall. But don't go on & on about what you fail to grasp. Dylan & Scorsese did a wonderful job with this film - the music performances above all will set your hair on fire if you have the eyes to see.
