Gertie is my sewing guru! I'm fairly new to sewing and I like the tips and explanations Gertie gives. Just the way she explains a thing has lead me to a clearer understanding. I am still confused about a lot of the inside outside right side wrong side maneuvers so not only is there a guide, there are photos too.
It's not the worlds most comprehensive sewing tutorial, but there are bigger books out there for that. I can look at Gertie's photos and get a lot of design ideas of my own.
One thing that I was surprised about and a little disappointed was the patterns in the back. I assumed they would be tissue but they are printed on both sides of paper stock and folded like a map. So as far as the Popover dress is concerned, the top of the "tent" is on one side and the "bottom" is on the other. You can't cut them out because you will cut through and damage the pieces on the back. Since there are edges all around the pattern pieces as a group, you can't easily trace them either. Someone will have to explain this to me. It's an ENIGMA as how to proceed. I'm tracing it onto butcher paper so hope it works. Also, for me, I need to make it a little bigger, so more challenges. Thankfully I am not going to deal with the other styles in the book until I conquer this Popover. I still choose Gertie over others though!
