Fantasy is usually medieval, or at least has a monarch or something, but I have never seen a writer blend modern day and magic; humans and myth together so expertly that our modern day world now seems soooo empty and uninteresting outside the book. Sarah J. Maas took the modern day world, folklore, myths and every story told to us at bedtime and blended them in a way that only she can. I have often wondered if it could be done, fantasy of modern times beyond Harry Potter and London. But I have seen someone with a creativity as crazy as J.K Rowling and Tolkien combined. Any literary work from that mind is sure to take two things that don't mix, and blend them like they were made for each other. Simply wonderful, every character, twist and turn keeps you on the edge of your seat like you're watching a movie because really, Maas creates characters that stretch their hands out of the book, and pull you right into it so that everything is playing right before your very eyes. A robust, artfully and well rounded world with equally well rounded characters. This is Greek mythology, European folklore, normal everyday life with a top sprinkling of religion all folded into the letters on a page- her talent is another form of magic in itself! Another masterfully pieced masterpiece from the Da Vinci of writing...a must read!
